City of Medford Oregon
M
edford is famous in the US for its succulent pears.. Its economy is centered around agriculture and timber products, and residents will see miles and miles of fruit and timber trees in the area. It is a popular place to live in Southern Oregon.  Its proximity to Ashland and Jacksonville draws many tourists who wish to take advantage of Medford\'s lower room and restaurant rates while visiting those cities. Medford is also in a central location for residents who wish to access recreational areas such as Oregon Caves National Monument, Crater Lake, and the Rogue River Valley. Harry and David\'s Country Store is an outlet store for
the gift and produce mail order company. Located about 1 mile south of Medford, Harry and David\'s is one of the world\'s largest shippers of fruit and food gifts. Many free samples are available, and there is a gourmet pantry, and a produce stand area with fresh-from-the-farm fruits and vegetables. Another favorite stop for visitors is to see the roses at the 43,000 square foot Jackson and Perkins Test & Display Gardens, half a mile south of Harry and David\'s. Although most of the roses are grown in California, they are packed and shipped from Medford.

Oregon covered bridges - Crosses the Applegate RiverThere are five covered bridges in the Medford area, including the Eagle Point and Wimer bridges. The Wimer bridge is the only covered bridge in Jackson county that is open to vehicles. The 85\' span crosses Evans Creek, and is located in the center of Wimer. Records show a bridge at that location as early as 1892 but the current bridge has been restored several times, the most recent being in 1986. The unusual Wimer signs on the bridge are said to have been recovered from an old gas station.

The Medford Railroad Park, a historic park, is a great place for train buffs to visit. This park features a vintage Medford Corp. logging train and other rolling stock and offers rides on scale model trains.

The primary responsibility of the public school is the intellectual development of all students who are required by law to attend. In addition, the public school has the responsibility to assist the home and community agencies in fostering the physical, social, emotional, aesthetic, and moral growth of the individuals. Therefore, the Board of Education of School District 549C believes that it has an obligation to establish an education program designed to provide opportunities for all children.

Community Location
Located in Jackson County approximately 15 miles north of the California border on Interstate 5, Ashland is close to Crater Lake National Park, the headwaters of the Rogue River, and the southern Oregon coast. Everywhere you look, there are minders of the past from pioneer vintage buildings to Victorian houses.

Ashland

A Place We Call Home! Ashland offers qualities of life that many towns only dream about. In addition to its physical beauty and cultural diversity, Ashland feels like a community...a place we call home.

It shows up in many ways. Like walking past homes built at the turn of the century, preserved because people care, or shopping in buildings you remember seeing in historic photographs. It shows up in clean streets, well-funded schools and libraries, and a downtown free of garish signs. And most fun of all, it shows up in community events with real roots, like the Fourth of July Celebration, dating from the 1870\'s, and summer\'s Ashland City Band Concerts, going back to the 1890\'s.

Lithia ParkSouthern Oregon is famous for its recreational opportunities. Within an hour´s drive of Ashland, you will find many rivers, lakes and mountains and an abundance of wildlife. Even within Ashland there is a lot to do. Lithia Park has been called "the crown jewel of Ashland," and what a jewel it is. Established in 1908 at the request of the women of Ashland, it was the first park in Southern Oregon. It was later expanded and named Lithia Park. Designed in part by John McLaren, long-time superintendent of San Francisco´s Golden Gate Park, it covers 93 acres right off the Plaza, at the center of downtown. Favored by walkers, joggers and lovers of nature, the park is a place of beauty and solitude. There are many well-maintained footpaths scattered throughout the park. Walking near the creek in some locations you´ll forget that you´re in town. Lithia Park was recently awarded a Centennial Medallion by the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Ashland is also becoming better known in the fine arts field as reflected in its current ranking as one of the ten best small art towns in America. It is home not only to nearly two dozen art galleries and shops but also to a recently expanded art museum of growing reputation. In the galleries, the emphasis is on Northwest artists; some of whom are nationally known, though at the Schneider Museum on the Southern Oregon University campus visitors can see major contemporary exhibits from around the country. The student-run Gallery at Stevenson Union has first-rate invitational exhibitions, too.

The residents of Ashland believe that community events, such as the 4th of July and Holiday Festival of Lights, are integral to overall atmosphere of this city. In that spirit new events are added each year that enhance the feeling of community.

Ashland´s galleries and shops offer a remarkably diverse range of fine arts and crafts. You can find representational as well as contemporary paintings and fine art prints; sculpture; glass; Native American and visionary art; pottery and ceramics; jewelry and fabric art; and fine hand-crafted furniture. There is a First Friday Gallery Walk each month sponsored by the Ashland Gallery Association which in the Spring also puts on the Taste of Ashland - a fantastic way to walk through town, viewing art while sipping wine and sampling locally created delicacies.

Southern Oregon is quickly becoming known for the fine wines being produced here. The rugged mountain valleys and diverse climates allow a wide variety of intensely flavored wine grapes to be grown. The cooler areas of Southern Oregon produce wonderful Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gerwurztaminer while the arid regions grow rich Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Syrah. Visiting a Southern Oregon Winery is truly a unique experience, so come out and taste the different varieties, see the natural beauty and meet some special people.WINE grape pictures -Eden Valley Vineyard\'s Merlot, Bear Creek Appellation; Net bird protection

Ashland Public Schools - The Ashland Public School District has seven schools centered in the city of Ashland. Approximately 3,277 students attend five elementary, one middle and one high school. Over 394 full and part-time teachers, support staff and administrators provide instruction programs. The school has historically benefited from a high level of community support. One measure of this is a record of consistent budget and bond election approval extending over two decades.

oin us in experiencing the history, natural beauty and generous hospitality of our community. Located just 12 miles from Medford, Oregon on Highway 62 (The Rogue/Umpqua Scenic Byway) on the way to Crater Lake, we enjoy the conveniences of the "big city" and the warmth and friendliness of small town life. Known as "The Gateway to the Lakes", Eagle Point is also home to a world class golf course.

History plays a large part in our way of life. And, with two truly fine museums, a covered bridge, an operating flour mill, three parks, and many historic buildings in town, you\'ll feel as if you have stepped back in time to a quieter, gentler era. Excellent services and friendly local merchants will make your stay a memorable one.

Our various community organizations and many hard working volunteers plan for year-round activities. Come join us for the 4th of July celebration, the annual Bridge Festival or the Christmas bonfire and tree lighting.

With a population of 4,200 spread over a large area, we are a rural community of farms, dairies and ranches. While we are experiencing a growth "boom", we still maintain our community spirit and "home town" atmosphere.
